Dare to disagree

In today’s world, being unique and stand out for doing usual things is still a risky enterprise. In spite of the constant stream of innovations flowing in the last couple of decades, going against conventional wisdom will certainly result in severe criticism with an amplified effect thanks to social networks.

For this reason, I would like to start this blog with this TED talk from Margaret Effernan that emphasizes on the importance of critical thinking and the expression of our own opinions. She argues that the only way to drive change is by surrounding us with people very different from ourselves so as to avoid living in an eco-chamber of our own opinions. Honestly, this seems a quite difficult taks given how social media works and the amount of time we tend to spend in these platforms.

Seeking conflict in a respectful way might as well be a key skill to propel a successful career. Our society is mostly stuck in the comfort zone; however, conflict fosters the creativity necessary to solve the dauting challenges that lie ahead of mankind. Following the example of Greta Thundberg, if you are not happy with the status quo, do not be afraid to speak your mind and be strong against the critics!
